As long as I can remember, my family's been a TV family. Starting in college, I really started watching a lot more TV myself, and now it's a rare night when I don't have something to watch. Not just because I love the drama of a well-written show (though I do!), but because our television programming displays our culture values—and sometimes tries to inform how our values should change for the future. Our society is reflected in what's on TV from the jokes that are told, to the demographics of the characters, and to the way the show embraces (or rejects) social-political controversy. Add in stories about stars like Charlie Sheen and we really can come to understand ourselves as members of a modern society a thousand times better by taking a deep look at our media. And that's why I love TV.
